Jason’s passion for firearms stared in 1992 when he first learned how to safely use and handle firearms in general. A U.S. Army veteran, while serving with the 82nd Airborne Division he qualified with the expert rating on various weapons. Jason left the Army in 2000 and continued to shoot and train using the skills and knowledge he learned. Now an appointed NRA Training Counselor, he enjoys teaching others what he has learned and continues to stay on top of his training.
Rick Buckner
Rick has over 32 years of safe firearm handling, including rifle, shotgun, and handgun. Since the age of 18, Rick has owned and trained with a .44 Magnum handgun. He has a genuine interest in all aspects of safety, not only with firearms, but also by serving as a member of his employer's safety team since 1987.
To better serve his students, Rick continually updates his training credentials to increase his firearm educational teaching skills and experience. Rick is certified to instruct in NRA Basic Pistol and NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home. He is an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer, and an NRA Recruiter.
After becoming certified as an NRA Instructor in 2005, Rick became more intensely involved with other firearm education groups in the state: Michigan2A and Michigan Gun Owners. Rick is Vice President of Michigan2A, Rick is also honored to be the president of the Michigan Gun Owners.
Garry Flanary
Garry is a life-long shooter and hunter who enjoys collecting and shooting many types of firearms. As an NRA Life Endowment Member, a Director of the Michigan Gun Owners (MGO), and a member of SCI, SASS, and IDPA, he understands the need for proper firearms education.
Garry is a 2003 graduate of the Western Wayne Regional Police Training Academy and has completed criminal justice classes at Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, and is currently enrolled in the Mountain State University Criminal Justice Administration undergraduate program. Garry has completed instructor development training with the National Rifle Association Law Enforcement Activities Division and is certified to instruct law enforcement and citizens in both and handgun and shotgun disciplines. Garry is a member of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI), International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA), and the National Rifle Association Law Enforcement Activities Division (NRALEAD), and currently serves as the department training coordinator/instructor for Unadilla Township.
Garry is currently assigned to the Livingston County Fraud Identity-Theft and Scam Team (FIST), the Unadilla Narcotics Enforcement Team, and also represents the department at the State and Local Anti-Terrorism Meetings (SLATT). Recently, Garry has been providing statewide instruction on Methamphetamine Clandestine Laboratories and the remnants left by labs, as well as attending update training from the MSP and DEA for Clandestine Labs.
Ed Hoffman
Ed first learned safe gun handling in the Boy Scouts at age 11. He received his first rifle at age 12 after proving to his parents he could handle it safely and responsibly. Ed learned more about firearms safety and handling during his 12 years in the Air National Guard.
For the past 15 years, he has continually taken safety and marksmanship classes to improve his skills and to keep up to date on shooting techniques. Ed is certified as a Range Safety Officer through the NRA and a Hunter’s Safety Instructor by the state of Michigan.
Ed is currently serving as President of the Howell Gun Club and has also served for the past 3 years on the board of Michigan Gun Owners
Bob Knight
